MiM Music

MiM Music is a pre-school singing and music-making group, based in York, aimed at families and childminders with children aged 0-4 years. Single children, twins and more than one child equally welcome.

The idea behind MiM Music is to give your children equal access to music in a relaxed and fun way with like-minded people who won't bat an eyelid if you're struggling to contain excitable/crying children!

The emphasis of MiM Music is on encouraging everyone to get involved togetherOur classes have a structured beginning and end, with a changing weekly theme in the middle section - this gives the children some familiarity whilst keeping them engaged and interested with new material at the same time.

Extensive research has shown that musical activities can help young children develop communication, listening and concentration skills, as well as providing the foundations for reading and writing later on.

As a mum-of-three (including twins), I know that parenting can feel quite isolating at times, and the guilt of worrying that one child is being given more attention than the other can at times be very difficult, so using a variety of musical techniques, puppets and props, many of the MiM Music songs can be tailored to suit two or more children, as well as, of course, being great fun for single children.

Classes promote all areas of the EARLY YEARS FOUNDATION STAGE (EYFS) curriculum, providing a range of experiences in all of the six areas of learning
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development
  • Communication, Language and Literacy
  • Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
  • Knowledge and Understanding of the World
  • Physical Development
  • Creative Development
(The EYFS is a stage of children’s development from birth to the end of their first year in school. It describes how early years practitioners should work with children and their families to support their development and learning.)

In addition, we offer an understanding of the difficulties and joys of parenting, so included in our 45-minute sessions is a chance to chat/swap tips over a drink and snack with other parents/carers, while the children get to know each other and play.
